Alec Udell Closes First Half of PWC SprintX Season with Twin Top-10 Finishes

May 30, 2017 | Lakeville, Connecticut | Alec Udell earned two top-10 finishes in Rounds 7 and 8 of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) SprintX Championship at Lime Rock Park over the Memorial Day weekend. The resident of The Woodlands, Texas is competing in the combined Pirelli World Challenge GT Championship, which includes both the 60-minute, two-driver SprintX format – such as at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut – and the 50-minute, single driver system. Udell has shared the No. 77 Calvert Dynamics Porsche 911 GT3 R with Preston Calvert (Potomac, Maryland) for the first three event weekends of SprintX. With the first five races of the ten race SprintX portion now complete, the junior at Clemson University will turn his attention back to his solo effort in the No. 17 Euroworld Motorsports/GMG Porsche 911 GT3 R for the immediate future.

The 1.5-mile, seven-turn Lime Rock Park circuit in Connecticut saw Udell and Calvert finish in seventh-place in Race 1 on Friday afternoon. The pairing followed with an eight-place result on Saturday in Race 2. Contact at the start of Saturday’s show upset the handling of the No. 77 but Udell held on through his stint, lapping competitively and challenging for position. Calvert ran the final leg of the race and maintained a top-ten finish. The SprintX series returns to competition on August 11-13 at Utah Motorsports Campus. The finale will take place at the Circuit of the Americas, September 1-3.

Udell will return to his familiar, Clemson University-liveried Euroworld Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R for Rounds 4 and 5 of the Sprint Championship. After the first three races, the 2016 PWC GT Cup Champion is sixth in the Sprint title chase for Drivers. He opened the year with two victories in the GT Amateur (GTA) class at St. Petersburg, Florida. The success immediately moved the 21 year-old into the “GT” class for professional drivers beginning at the second event weekend. Despite the heated competition with factory and longtime veterans of the sport, Udell has done more than hold his own. His lap times and racecraft have proven him a challenger at the drop of every green flag.

about Lime Rock| “Lime Rock is a physically and mentally demanding track. With 53-second lap times, it's a track where something is always going on. We were happy to come out of the weekend with a relatively clean Calvert Dynamics Porsche, and two top-10 finishes. I think Preston drove very well in the two races and I'm happy with the performance of the GMG team."
