Illustrated Early Reader Focused on Inspiring Children Launches Indiegogo Campaign
October 22, 2015, Charlotte, North Carolina – Did you ever dream of being an Indy car driver? Did you fantasize about making that last corner pass to win a race to raise the trophy up high in Victory Lane? For many racing fans, once they saw the action on TV or in person at the track, the speed, sound and excitement sparked something they just had to be part of. Apex Legends announces its second book - a collaborative effort between author/illustrator Chris Workman and Verizon IndyCar Series winner Josef Newgarden. Josef, The IndyCar Driver is designed to ignite the next generation of IndyCar fans.
"This is a really interesting, unique project that I hope the Indy car community gets behind," said Newgarden. "A book like this is a great way to get kids excited about racing and I am honored that my personal story will be featured in this project. Thinking bigger picture, this is also an inspiration story that teaches kids that they can accomplish whatever they set their mind to.”
In today's cluttered world, half the challenge is making kids aware of motorsports and learning about motorsports Enter Workman's content development company, Apex Legends. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based creative group is focused on inspiring young kids to learn and become engaged in racing and reading. Workman's first book, The Longest Day - A Childhood Race Adventure , was centered on a father and son bonding together at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
"I am really energized by this project," offered Workman, a father of three. "Not only will the story provide an exciting, realistic look at Indy car racing, but Josef, The IndyCar Driver will be very authentic to Josef's real life experience rising from his days in karting to one of today's best IndyCar Series drivers. Our hope is it will show young kids who are dreaming of being a driver a taste of what it takes to reach that goal and inspire them to take the first step. In fact, to inspire them to chase any passion they have by using the real world example of Josef."
Josef, The IndyCar Driver is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season. Since Apex Legends is self-publishing the project, an Indiegogo campaign is being launched to drive funding for the first printing and promotional activities.
"While this book will definitely appeal to IndyCar Series fans, a big goal for this program is to spread the open wheel racing message to a much broader audience," clarified Workman. "The more funding we are able to raise through Indiegogo, the more people we will be able to reach with the book."
In the month from now through November 22, contributors to the Indiegogo campaign will be able to pre-order the book and get exclusive perks such as posters, autographed copies signed by Newgarden and a VIP event package.
Newgarden sums up the book nicely: “The world of racing is such a unique place - everyone in the sport has a different story or experience. This book gives young kids and fans a true glimpse into the twists and turns that led me to race Indy cars and tells the story in a very authentic, entertaining and educating way. Check out the Indiegogo program and help us make this program a success!"
